Healthy Smoothies- Asian Pear & Almond Milkshake

I’m officially obsessed with healthy smoothies and milkshakes. And why not? Just like real fruit and veggie smoothies, milkshakes made out of the right ingredients can be so good and good for you. This easy milkshake recipe calls for a ripe, juicy Asian pear which is very sweet by nature, nullifying the need for external sweeteners which we want to avoid whenever possible. For those of you not familiar with Asian pears, they are a roundish shape, typically a bit larger than an apple, with light brown to medium golden brown skin. Many markets outside of Asia confuse them with Korean pears, which you can also substitute here. They are very similar in juiciness and their distinctive tart-sweet balance. These pears are one of my very favorite fruits as they are low in calories, high in antioxidants and are amazing thirst quenchers. Paired with raw almonds and your choice of milk, this milkshake is perfect for breakfast or an afternoon energy booster. Be aware though that the addition of almonds here makes this milkshake’s texture somewhat gritty so if you don’t like that rough texture, you’ll want to check out my other smoothie and milkshake recipes.
