Tomato Berry Smoothie – Smoothies For Beautiful Skin
There are few combinations of foods as powerful as that of tomatoes and berries to create smoothies for beautiful skin. The list of health benefits for both tomatoes and berries is too long to list here but suffice it to say, they cover the gamut of fighting against cancers, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, digestion issues and of course, help maintain clear, beautiful skin. The only caveat with this smoothie is that you have to drink it immediately after making it. If you let it sit even for just a few minutes, the tomatoes coagulate and turn the smoothie into a weird, lumpy concoction. So drink up and drink your way to glorious skin!
Makes 2 large glasses or 4 medium sized glasses
1 heaping cup crushed ice
1 ½ cups White Tea or Green Tea, cold
1 heaping cup seedless watermelon chunks
10 medium sized ripe strawberries, hulled
½ cup red beets, peeled and roughly chopped (raw or cooked is fine)
½ cup pomegranate seeds
8 cherry tomatoes (substitute 1 small tomato, chopped)
2 tablespoons soaked Chia seeds (optional)
2 tablespoons honey (optional- best to use if blending with raw beets)
Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Serve immediately.
Note: It’s really important to use great ingredients to get the best results. I once made this recipe with very bland, unripe strawberries and the taste was completely different than when using ripe berries. As noted in the ingredients, if you’re opting to use raw beets, you will probably want to add the honey to counteract the bitterness of the beets.
