Best Beauty Oils- Tatcha Camellia Beauty Oil

It is no secret that I’ve been a staunch supporter of Tatcha Skincare since its inception in 2009. As a baby on the skincare scene, Tatcha’s products accomplish a remarkable thing- they feel like they’re steeped in the deep history of Japanese skincare, the very essence its founder sought to recreate.

Recently, Tatcha came out with a Camellia Beauty Oil flecked with real gold. Before you write off beauty oils as being for those with dry skin, let me clearly state that I am someone with Combination/Oily skin. Like me, many of you may believe that the concept of adding more oil on top of already oily skin makes no sense whatsoever but that’s simply not the case.

If you’re at all interested in skincare and healthy living (assuming you are since you’re on my site), you’ll have heard by now terms like “healthy fats” and how the fats in foods like salmon and avocado are good for you. Well, in essence, beauty oils are the external equivalents of those good for you fatty foods. We don’t avoid salmon and avocado thinking their fats are going to cause pimples or oilier skin, right? Same principles apply to beauty oils.

In fact, using the right beauty oil in the right way can have the following positive effects:

  • decrease inflammation, which can be the very cause of oiliness and breakouts
  • fight environmental damage to the face
  • plump up skin better than just moisturizers (many of which contain small amounts of oil), acting as a natural botox
  • helps better absorb anti-aging serums and creams.

The first night I used Tatcha’s Camellia Beauty Oil, I was fascinated how glowy and dewy my face looked. Not oily, but dewy, the way those Korean starlets always look in their shows. After just one week of nightly use, I noticed a dramatic reduction in the oiliness of my face during the day. Instead of having to use oil-blotting papers or certain paper towels (when I don’t have blotting papers handy) several times a day, I now only have to touch up once a day, even on the longest work days.

Additionally, blotchiness is no longer an issue for me at all since using this oil.

The key ingredients or Licorice Root Extract helps to calm redness and inflammation, Green Tea extract helps fight environmental damage (just the way drinking it does), while Camellia Oil and Squalane plump up the skin with that much needed hydration (yes, even oily skin hungers for hydration). The 24 karat gold flakes do exactly what you’d expect- adds an overall glow (with prolonged use). The American Medical Association has even done tests on the effects of gold on skin with positive results suggesting its potency on anti-inflammation and fighting auto-immune diseases.

I use Tatcha’s Beauty Oil after Toner, prior to anti-aging serums to boost their efficacy and after several months usage, I am hooked for life. Did I mention that all Tatcha skincare is formulated WITHOUT mineral oil, synthetic fragrances, sulfate detergents, parabens, PEGs, PPGs, DEA, TEA, urea or phthalates?

Whether you have combination/oily skin like I do and determined to have skin properly hydrated AND decrease daytime shininess, normal skin or dry skin in need of extra hydration love, Tatcha’s Camellia Beauty Oil should be THE nighttime oil you use as part of a healthy, daily skin regimen.

Available at US $95 for a 30mL/ 1.01 oz bottle that lasts about 4 months with nightly use.
