Brandy Hot Chocolate
Ok, so I had a sip of this decadent brandy hot chocolate as a child. I didn’t know there was brandy in it and by the time my neck grew warm, my parents and grandparents were too late to stop me. Ok, so it was only my grandfather’s hot chocolate that had brandy in it. It was so luscious and sweet. Here’s his original recipe that I’ve tweaked over the years- guaranteed to keep family and friends happy and warm over the holidays or any cold day.

Makes 4 Mugs

Ingredients
4 mugs of milk (or about 10 cups)
1/2 cup dark cocoa powder + for sprinkling
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla essence
8 tablespoons Brandy
1 heaping cup mini marshmallows
Freshly whipped cream

Method

In a medium sized pot, heat the milk on high heat until a gentle, rolling boil is reached. Immediately turn the heat to low once you begin to see the bubbles.

Add the cocoa powder, salt, sugar and vanilla essence into the hot milk; stir thoroughly until dissolved.

In the serving mugs place 2 tablespoons of Brandy in each mug then ladle the hot chocolate over the Brandy. Garnish with the mini marshmallows and whipped cream. Add a few tablespoons of the cocoa powder into a sifter and gently shake over the whipped cream for a lovely snowy effect. Serve immediately.
