BEACON LA IS NOW CLOSED.

In a city as massive and spread out as Los Angeles, it’s easy to get lost in a maze of restaurants that all claim to be the best at what they do. Unfortunately, few live up to the hype and fewer still create both an atmosphere and most importantly, cuisine that keeps you coming back for more. If you’re in LA, look no further than Beacon, owned by husband and wife team Kazuto Matsusaka and Vicki Fan. Together, they have changed LA’s food scene to actually be deserving of its reputation as a world class destination.

Dishes such as the ‘Sugar Snap Pea Salad’ (with a refreshing ume shiso vinaigrette) and ‘Miso Glazed Black Cod’ revamp what was originally known as California fusion cuisine. Beacon’s food is fusion at its best, taking the freshest ingredients available, marrying them with sophisticated flavors without compromising authenticity. Unlike so many other restaurants that offer endless items on a confusing menu, Beacon has just enough variety but concentrates on delivering their sushi, noodles and other dishes with expert precision.

Flavors are bright or subtle where they should be and vegetables are always crisp, never over-cooked. Complete your meal with my favorite Beacon Bento Box of Sweet Treats, an adorable and tantalizing array of macaroons, chocolate truffles and lemon meringue raspberry tartlette, (or you could do what I’ve done and make that Bento Box a meal in itself).
